Hello, first time posting here since I'm getting kind of desperate.

I've put together (again) this build:
MB: Asus M5 A97 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX 6300
GPU: XFX AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
RAM: Kingston 2x4GB DDR3 1600
HDD: Seagate 500GB
SSD: Kingston 60GB
PSU: Corsair CS450M

It's a build I've put together a couple of years ago with the exception of the PSU (had a Corsair 500) and recently I've taken it apart and brought the pieces abroad, with the exception of the PSU and case. This build has worked flawlessly until now.

Now, that I'm putting it back together I'm getting motherboard beeps... 1 long, 3 short and 1 short (after a short pause).

Asus manual and online says:
- 1 long and 3 short is a VGA problem
- 1 long and 4 short is hardware component failure

so not sure how to take it since it's not 4 short beeps continuously (the 4th beep is after a pause). Either way, I've treated it as an hardware failure and tried to boot with only some parts of the build.

- Tried without the graphics card and still the same problem
- Tried without the rams and just one ram at a time and still the same problem
- Tried without the HDD and SSD and still the same problem
- Tried resetting the CMOS and still the same problem

Getting kind of desperate, so If anyone could help me out here I'd be greatly appreciated.

Another difficulty I'm encountering is connecting this PSU to the graphics card... The graphics card has 2 sockets for the power (one 8 pin socket and one 6 pin socket), according to what I've read you're suppose to plug the PSU to the 6 pin socket, but not sure and I've also tried plugging to the 8 pin socket to the same result (the psu has and 6+2 pin head).

Currently posting from my desktop.

The problem was as i feared, a missed connection to the graphics card. My current PSU only has one cable to power the graphics card (8pin head), however my GPU needs one 8 pin + 6 pin heads to power it. I had no problems with my previous PSU (Corsair CX500) because it already came with those two cable heads. For this one I had to buy a molex adaptor to supply enough power for the GPU. And indeed it powered without a problem.

Thanks for the answers anyways and hope this helps someone in the future with the same problem.

PS: The long beep + 3 shorts (pause) 1 beep is indeed VGA not detected and not hardware malfunction on asus motherboards.

I'm pretty sure I seated the CPU correctly (double checked and all), I don't think it seats on any other direction anyway :/ but thanks for the input Keannu.

AMD processors can only be installed in one direction - the pin layout makes it impossible to install it in the wrong orientation.

I wish i had that possibility...

Someone suggested getting a molex cable for the other 6 pin socket for the graphics card, so just ordered that and I will report back when I test it.
