Hi, everyone. I've purchased a 2tb firecuda SSHD drive to replace the 1TB Firecuda I used for about a year and decided to yank when it showed signs of ill health.

Previous to that, I was using a 500 gig seagate momentus, which still works fine.

I cloned my system to the 2tb firecuda and fired it up. No joy. Messages says put proper boot drive and hit key.

OK, so I check the following:

Is this SATA 0 on the mobo? Yes.
Drives shows in UEFI BIOS? Yes.
Does drive show up as a USB drive if used with adapter? Yes.
Can I read/write to the drive? Yes.
Does Windows 7 diskstorage see the drive? Yes.
Did i use MiniTool partition wizard to rebuild MBR just in case? Yes.
Does the 750gig Seagate Momentus I'm currently using as my C: drive work? Yes.
Can Macrium Reflect clone the drive? Yes.

My mobo is a ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. CROSSHAIR V FORMULA-Z Rev 1.xx
Serial Number: 120801620500201
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
UEFI: American Megatrends Inc. 0508 08/03/2012

There is an update to the BIOS, but I'm always reluctant to flash a bios unless it's really necessary.

I've never seen anything quite like this and was wondering for any ideas or insights?

Solution
(Disregard "SSD". Works exactly the same with your FireCuda)

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the...

I have recloned with Reflect. I'll try with another tool.

The reason I purchased the 2tb model was to move my Windows 7 installation onto it, partition the drive, and install Win 10 on it for a gradual transition. But since I can't boot the drive, I can't do that.

Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
