im new to overclocking, and i simply cant go over 4.1 Ghz with my 6300 and have it run bench marking software stable, without a crash or a blue screen; it wont even boot if i past 4.1 ghz, no matter how i modify setting or voltages, should i keep tweaking, and trying for the 4.5 ghz overclock i want or Return my chip and hope i get a better one?

Corsair H80i Gt
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 R5

Hi mat,

Not every single FX 6300 cpu is the same.
How well it over clocks, or does not in some cases depends on what fabrication plant the cpu was made in.
It also depends on how good the silicone disk used to make the cpu`s in quality was when they etch the cpu and build it up on the silicone disk, substrate.

And the brand and type of motherboard, it`s brand, model number, chip set used on the board.
Can also effect how well an FX cpu overclocks

It also depends on how you are doing the overclock.
If you are having problems overclocking the CPU.
And you are just using the cpu multiplier.

Make sure that your memory clock stays at 200Mhz relating to memory.

Or lower the speed the memory is set at to a lower working speed, other than its maximum or it`s xmp mode.
Often it`s not the cpu to blame but the fact the memory is stretched too high in speed that prevents the board from posting.

You should be able to get the cpu up to 4.3Ghz with a core voltage setting of about 1.35v to 1.38v

In your bios make sure you turn off the auto turbo feature if the bios has the option.
And also turn off the cool and quiet option in the bios.

If both are enabled in your bios they will hinder your manual overclocking.
C6 state enabled.
Also check if you have a cpu shut down temperature in the bios options of your motherboard it is not set too low in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Remember the more voltage to the core, and overclock frequency set by the multiplier the hotter the cpu will be.
Keep an eye on it.

But your H80i should take care of it without any worries.

Ive only been touching the cpu mutiplier and veary lightly bumping up the voltages (im scared) if at all.

you mean the memory speeds of the processor right (im a noob) if so i haven't touch them; if you meant my ram speeds, ive got G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 2133 , its running at 1333 and my mobo will go as far as 1866, but i haven't touched that if that is what you meant...

I Have also had that problem for a while then i fiddled with the FSB speed and went from 200 to 217 and upped the voltage to 1.482 and i could go past the 4.2 , but i noticed my FX6300 cannot go past 22.5 multiplier and bus speed cant go past 217, but i got my FX6300 stable at 4.7 Ghz with air cooling.

i fiddled a bit with some voltages(vcore and whatnot) and i got it to run stable at 4.4 ghz, the max temp after an hour of benching full load was 37 Celsius, and 21 idle, with An H80i, i may or may not be able to push it further but im a bit scared to go higher... i did start an RMA With Newegg but now im not sure i should swap it out with them...
Oh and cant you list your voltages at 4.7 if its not too much trouble?

Oh and can you list your voltages at 4.7 for men id like to try and replicate your OC if its not too much trouble?
