Cant burn a dvd?

I have recently installed windows 8 on my pc but decided its not for me, i'm trying to burn a few iso's to a DVD-R, I have a more then capable drive to perform this, I have burned dvd's with it before with window 7/Xp just fine but not with windows 8, I have used CDBurnerXP, nero and any other bit of software I can use and they all start the burning process with the disk spinning then it stops and the LED on the drive keeps flashing but does nothing, I kept my pc on all last night for 14 hours to see what happens but noting, the programs are none response so I have to restart my pc to check the disk to see there is nothing on the disk (still blank) I have tried 5 different types of dvd and the drive (SATA) does work in other pc's please help me?

Try updating the driver. as you said worked before, so might just be a driver issue.

Where would I find one? the drive came with a ready built pc, and it works fine just not in windows 8 never has but reads disks

go on my computer. rightclick to view properties of the dvd, should see the model and make there, let me know what it is, also there within that should be able to update from there.


mycomputer-right click dvd- hardware tab- highlight the drive - click properties - driver tab - click update.

ok double check it by going to the bios and see the drives listed if it is the same.

Follow these steps and check if it helps.
a. Press Windows Key +R, type Control Panel.
b. Type troubleshooting in the search bar, click on troubleshooting.
c. Click on Hardware and Sound, click on Hardware and Devices.
d. Follow the steps from the wizard to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2:
You may try to update the DVD drivers from Device manager and check if it helps.
a. Right click on the bottom left corner on the desktop and select Device manager
b. In device manager, locate the device, right click on the device and select update drivers.

if not have to manually look for your drives. but surprise it showing two different names

oh yeah, what you can also do in the driver is to uninstall it and let windows install it again. risky but might work. if everything else fails or you cant find the driver update
