Can't change memory frequency or timings, they just reset? Gigabyte UD3H-Z77...

Had this motherboard for awhile, and finally went in to correctly set the memory as I just got 16GB of the Gskill Trident X series, but even if I click on a XMP profile, or manually change the frequency, upon save and restart it stays at 1333mhz.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Trying to get my ram to correct timings\speed, I over-clocked my CPU fine from 3.4 ghz to 4.5ghz, but the ram settings just don't seem to want to save\apply at all 🙁.

Thanks in advance.

How fast you can set your memory in speed depends on the chip set the motherboard uses.

Simply go to the Gigabyte webpage and support section inputting your motherboard model number.

Look at the table of memory speeds the board will work with.
If you don`t have the manual for the motherboard download the PDF version of it from the site.
And consult the manual on what you must do in order to get the memory to run at the frequency it states on the memory.

Don`t forget any changes you make in the bios have to be saved before you exit it, if you fail to do this it is why on each restart you are still seeing the memory speed rated at 1333Mhz settings.

Another factor as to why you cannot reach the stated Xmp mode of memory speed can relate to the processor you have fitted in the cpu socket.

However to me it looks like you are simply forgetting to save the changes in your bios before you exit it.

Also if you over clocked the cpu by upping the memory frequency.
Set it back to its default settings, enable xmp mode then choose the xmp profile.

and save the new changes in the bios before you exit it.

I reset everything back to default, and re-overclocked the processor and set the ram to the 1600MHZ XMP profile. The CPU went back to 4.5 GHZ but the ram is still sitting at 1300mhz. Any other ideas on what could be causing it? I know I saved it because it saved the CPU over-clock, and it SHOWS that the ram is supposed to be at 1600MHZ (XMP Profile is selected) but the ram is still just showing 1300mhz in the bios and CPU-Z. I'm stumped :-\

Just fixed it. I ended up having to use a Beta Bios from '14...Gigabyte hadn't done a refresh of bios since '12 and I was running F11, I updated it to F21e Bios and now it says 800mhz which x2 means 1600mhz, so all is well now. They have like 20 different bios for this motherboard, just crazy, but it was the F11 bios that was not allowing me to change the memory frequency or use XMP profiles. I put in my Mushkin Black Reapers just to check and it even set those to 7-8-6-24T and 1600MHZ. Was just a bad bios I guess.
