can't connect directly to modem after router is unplugged

my computer was connected to a router with 3 other computer but when i directly plug my pc to the modem it says cant connect.. tried restarting pc and modem can still can't connect. what's the problem. it says the ethernet cable that i plugged in is a telephone cable and has wide connection.. it was the same cable i used to connect to the router.

Can you try it with another cable (try the one that was from the modem to the router)?
