My dvd drive has one area to plug stuff in, which is two sata cable spots side by side. I have one sata plugged in and connecting the dvd drive to the motherboard (AS Rock Extreme 4), but nothing in the other sata spot. My PSU (Corsair CX600) does not have any sata cables available to power the dvd drive. How am I supposed to power my dvd drive so I can install an OS and all of my drivers onto my new computer? This is my first build.

Your PSU has the serial ATA power connector, look for it. Should look something like this: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--pcG2sWckow/TeeD_Zn72NI/AAAAAAAAAEI/w4F1G3Izsxw/s200/SATA_power_cable.jpg

I do have those, however the dvd drive does not have that connection. Unless I am blind and am missing that spot somehow, I've only seen two sata connection spots. But the sata connections are merged, and they still have the..."hook" thing inside that forces you to have the sata cable in correctly. If that doesn't make sense, I mean that it is not just a straight line like the ata power connector.

does your DVD look like this?: http://i.imm.io/cptt.png

The connections are like half that size, what are those called? Cause I have multiple of what you posted a picture of, however thats not what my dvd drive has. It has two smaller ones that I don't know the names of.

What brand is the DVD drive?

No, this is it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151261

Ok thanks you guys, I hadn't realized it was a slim dvd writer, I've never ordered any before so now I know there are two different sizes. And thanks for clearing up to me what was a Mini-Sata cable and a normal sata cable. I think I'm just going to buy http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0033Z2BAQ/sr=8-2/qid=1378594054/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1378594054&seller=&sr=8-2 this dvd burner instead because the slim doesn't look like it will even fit in my case 🙁 haha.
