Hello,

I cant connect my Galaxy S3 Neo phone to my Windows 10 PC via an USB cable. It worked before but - presumably after a Windows 10 update - it randomly stopped working. Ive tried a lot of "solutions" found on the internet, but nothing seems to help me.

Ive tried the following:

1. Ive tried 3 different cables, they all work on my laptop but not my PC
2. Ive tried different USB ports
3. I ran Windows troubleshooter
4. Ive manually installed the MTP drivers
5. Ive manually installed the S3 Neo drivers
6. Ive manually installed the Media Feature Pack
7. I tried installing the MTP driver with Driver Talent
8. I tried rebooting my phone
9. I tried rebooting my PC (a lot)
10. I removed my SD card and cleaned my phone
11. I made sure my phone was on MTP mode

The following info might be useful:

1. I have Windows 10 64x
2. 1151 pin variant
3. Android version 4.4.2 (Kitkat)
4. Windows is up-to-date
5. Phone is up-to-date

The solution is probably stupidly simple and obvious, but I just cant find whats wrong. I feel like it has something to do with the drivers, as the troubleshooter did say the MTP drivers arent installed, but the troubleshooter doesnt install them, Driver Talent doesnt install them, and even after manually installing it, troubleshooter is still saying I dont have MTP drivers.

Anyone with a solution?

I found posts saying S6 can't even connect to win 10, which is odd as my S5 can - with or without KIES - though it was after i ran KIES so could just be that.

Aren't you meant to use samsung software? I had an S3 a few years ago and had to fight against the Samsung software to get it to connect

http://www.samsung.com/au/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/ << this one

Have an S5 now, I didn't even bother loading KIES last install, forgot all about it.

Ive never used KIES, but my phone could connect via a USB cable before. I can connect to my W10 laptop no problem, without using KIES. Im also not familiar with KIES so I'd prefer to do it without it.

Does KIES allow you to put MP3 files in folders on your SD card? I could use it if I cant get it to work without it.

Pretty sure it does, I just installed it to see if I had any new firmware as it updates that too. I know you can add photos to the library on phone.

I use google play music so never really needed any space on phone for music, waste of a 64gb memory stick really.

this might fix your problem:

Run command prompt as administrator and run the following command:
net localgroup Administrators local service /add
That is what fixed my problem after searching everywhere

Tried running that command, got the message "System error 5, acces denied" back (something along those lines, PC is in different language). I am the administrator though.

Tried the stuff from that link. Nothing seems to work for me. I do have the updated chipset drivers now, but still, no difference.

Again, still not working.

One of steps (cant remember which) where it would download the driver from the devicemanager, gave back an error "cant find the right drivers" for the MTP drivers and SAMSUNG_Android drivers. They show a little "!", so there should be something wrong with the drivers. But as stated in my first post, I already manually installed the MTP drivers. Im confused.

Try running a driver update program like Driver Booster, perhaps a change was made somewhere that assumes you have a more up to date driver elsewhere. Could also update bios but it seems unlikely that should be cause as it worked fine before.
