Can't connect to DHCP but only Static IP works?

Hi everyone,

So I have an Xbox One system and before I had it on a fixed IP address on DHCP and it worked fine. Recently I factory reset my Xbox and also factory reset my router/modem (I have ATT Uverse).

After factory resetting both, my Xbox can no longer connect to DHCP server it says in the error and the only way for me to connect it online to my internet is to set a static IP for the Xbox so that it doesn't use DHCP.

How can I make it for the Xbox to be able to get an address from DHCP again? I factory reset everything so I don't know why it isn't letting me give it an address from DHCP.

All my other devices work fine such as phones, tablets, laptops, etc.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Solution
Try the following procedure:

Performing a factory reset on your Wi-Fi gateway

A factory reset restores the Wi-Fi gateway back to its original factory shipped state. Factory reset is a very valuable step, but should be a last resort as all previous information will be lost.
Important Note

If you have a Static IP configured on the gateway or have changed your Wi-Fi network name (SSID), be sure to make a note of the settings so you can re-apply them once the factory reset is complete.

Locate the Reset button on the rear of the gateway, located directly beside the power input.
Depress the button and hold for at least 10 seconds. If the button is released sooner than 10 seconds, only a reboot occurs.
Once this has been done...

I looked at the manual but not sure if it states how to flush DHCP in there.

I have a ATT UVerse modem/router model number 3801HGV, if anyone has this or any experience with UVerse, does UVerse let you flush DHCP?

Once this has been done, wait until the device reboots and all the LEDs are once again lit. A successful reboot is when the broadband and service LEDs are solid green.
If you had a Static IP configured prior to the factory reset, you can restore those settings by doing the following:
Open a Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.254 into the address bar, press Enter.
When the gateway's Graphical User Interface screen appears, select the Settings tab.
Select the Broadband subtab.
Select the Link Configuration link.
Re-enter the original settings and select Save.
If you had changed your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) prior to the factory reset, you can now change the network name back to your desired network name. Visit Change your AT&T gateway password or Wi-Fi network name.
Following the factory reset or the changing of your wireless settings, you'll need to reconnect all of your wireless devices to the new network.

Solution

Thanks for reply, I actually had already factory reset my router and did everything you said, but still the Xbox cannot connect to DHCP and I always have to use a static IP for it to work.

Then I would suggest the 30-30-30 method as the factory reset on some modem/routers does not sufficiently clear the NVRAM of the device. It is also worth performing a factory reset from within the routers firmware after the hardware reset has been perfomed. It seems stupid and repetitious but it works:

1. when the unit is powered on, hold down its reset button for 30 seconds
2. while still holding down the reset button, unplug the router from power and hold for an additional 30 seconds
3. still holding down the reset button, turn on power to the router again and hold for 30 more seconds

I will give this a try thanks, does the 30-30-30 method clear DHCP?
