This morning I powered up my desktop to find I had no Internet access. The PC has no wireless network adapter and so is the only device in the house to use a wired connection. All wireless devices in the house are still working correctly. I've been scouring the resources available to me and troubleshooting for several hours, but I've gone beyond the scope of what I know about networks (not much) and I'm unable to draw any conclusions from my efforts. I'm not entirely certain what information someone might need to help me, so I'll be as detailed as I can and hope that someone who knows what they're doing can sift out what's important. (Please Help)
I opened up Network and Sharing Center and it listed the network as "Network 2" with access type "No Internet Access".
I used Windows Troubleshooter and it said "Your Broadband Modem is experiencing connectivity issues." I reset the modem, the router, and my PC.
I called my ISP who assured me that the modem was working fine, but they tried resetting it from their end anyway.
I called Microsoft support, who directed me on how to restart my PC in safe mode with networking access, and on how to reset my IP through the command prompt.
I updated the drivers on my network adapter.
I don't think I set up system restore on this computer, so I figured I'd reset the PC to factory setting and reinstalled Windows and all my drivers.
Nothing up to this point had any effect on my internet access. I remembered that I could use my phone as a wireless adapter and tried that. It worked! If I unplug my blue Ethernet cable and instead plug my phone into the USB slot I can access the internet using USB Tethering. If the Ethernet cable and my phone are both plugged in I can't access the internet. It seems like the wired configuration is so wrong that I can't access the internet whenever it's plugged into my computer. I have no idea what to make of this. Does anyone have an idea?
