So im building a $9K custom liquid cooled computer that i will constantly be upgrading for work and pleasure for the next 20 something years. And Im having trouble deciding which to go with, AMD or Intel. Sparing no expense, im going for an Intel i9 7900X or AMD Ryzen 7 1800X. This computer is being used for heavy gaming, heavy video and graphic editing, and heavy 3D animation and game design as well as game programming. I will be using 3 4k monitors and im just wondering what my best option is?

Yes I realize this is outrageous, but this pc will constantly be under heavy load and will need this power for all the uses im getting out of it.

Solution
AMD isn't overall better at much if anything. They just typically offer a lot more performance for a given budget. Since you practically have no budget, go Intel.

For what im doing though, iv'e heard AMD is better, but considering the budget, i can get more out of Intel?

Threadripper. 16 cores/32 threads for $1000 USD.
Leaving lots of money for ridiculous graphic cards.
64 pcie lanes. See above. :)

Or wait until Intel actually releases 14/16/18 core X299 parts.
Since budget isn't an issue.
For your stated purpose and system life, perhaps waiting a wee bit for some benchmarks on actual workstation level equipment might be in order, rather than comparing a HEDT part ( 7900x ), to a mainstream desktop part. ( R7)

Heck , at that price point, and workload, a 1P Epyc system would begin to make sense.
Kind of depends on workload.
For what you want out of it, I'd wait a month or two.

If you can wait for a few weeks (up to a month), I'd check out how Threadripper fares.
The Threadripper line seems like a good fit for your use cases, but until reviews are out it is only theoretical (Extra cores, PCIe Lanes, decent base clock) At least compared to the current X299 choices.

If you can't wait, and since money is a non-issue, go X299. However future-proofing is hardly a sure thing considering Intel's tendency to change sockets after a few years (20 years is a very long time)

The R7 1800X is not a good pick money or performance wise (a R7 1700 can be overclocked to around the same levels of a 1800X)

I'd agree with the guys above, wait a bit to see what will threadripper actually turn out to be. Announcements are insane and I'd say that socket will be handling some insane CPUs in the future. Tho 1950X is a bit insane :D
