Good afternoon

I downloaded a program so i could monitor cpu temps and load. I downloaded a program called Open Hardware Monitor. After i downloaded and unzziped a folder i run the program, i didnt install anything. When i was done with the program i tried to delete it and it deleted all the files except one "OpenHardwareMonitorLib.sys".

It said the program was still running although i cheked tesk manager and didnt find anything.

A friend of mine tried to change the .sys to a .txt file and tried something by right-clicking and doing something in the properties, but it only made things WORSE.

Now if i try to delete the file it says

"Acess denied to file

Requires a permission of Desktop-........\User to alterate this file

Try again or Cancel".

Even though the account i am on is the administrar account.

If someone could help me i would be very aprecciated.

Best regards
Júlio Dias

The BIOS is different from Safe Mode, but I do understand how you feel.

It's odd that you were able to rename the file, yet still are unable to delete it.

Since you have you removed the rest of the program, I would look for both the .TXT and .SYS file. Delete either one (or both if they exist).

If you really don't want to boot up into Safe Mode, then another program might help you. There are special utilities for deleting "stubborn files" such as [File Assassin]. There are other [similiar programs].

I still recommend booting into Safe Mode. It's the easiest way and doesn't require another download. The reason why is because in Safe Mode, Windows doesn't load drivers (.SYS files) and this allows you to delete them...
Hi Julio, try booting up in [Safe Mode] and deleting the file. Note: When using System Config, only check the Safe boot box (and uncheck it later). Don't mess with any other options no matter how tempting!

That should work, but if it doesn't, download [AutoRuns] (it's from Microsoft) and run it. Wait for it to scan your system and fully load, then click on the Drivers tab. Uncheck the OpenHardwareMonitorLib.sys, reboot, then delete the file. If you can't find the file, there is a search at the top of the window.

Hello. I am kind of afraid of messing with BIOS stuff and using the safe mode just dont want to mess anything up.
The problem is that the file was changed from .sys to .txt by my friend should i still look for .sys or the .txt?

Thanks for your help

I still recommend booting into Safe Mode. It's the easiest way and doesn't require another download. The reason why is because in Safe Mode, Windows doesn't load drivers (.SYS files) and this allows you to delete them. In regular mode, Windows loads those SYS files and uses them which makes it difficult to delete them.

Full instructions for the Safe Mode method: Press Win+R to open the Run dialog, type in msconfig and press OK. Click on the Boot tab. Check the Safe Mode box and reboot.

Once in Safe Mode, things will look weird. The screen may be larger than normal and most thing won't work. But you only need to be in there for a minute or so, just long enough to delete the file.

After you delete the file, press Win+R to open the Run dialog again. Type is msconfig, go to the Boot tab, and uncheck the Safe mode box. Reboot back into normal mode.

I hope one of these help. Good luck.
