Can't display in HDTV via DVI/HDMI cable, through DVI/D-Sub adapter

Okay, here's the details:
I have a laptop, which I use to display videos on my HDTV (Samsung Series 6) through a D-Sub/D-Sub (standard monitor cable).
Problem is, this cable displays only up to 1280x1024 (or 1024x768, but nothing else). So, I bought a DVI/HDMI cable to display high resolutions on my tv. Then, I realized my laptop didn't have a DVI output.
I got my Desktop to test it, and it displayed at 1920x1080, everything worked perfectly.
On the next day I bought a DVI/D-Sub adapter (Female DVI/Male D-Sub), and connected everything to my laptop.

But then I can't get my laptop to display anything on my tv! It just displays "No Signal", and the computer unchecks the "Extend my desktop to this monitor" automatically.
Is this a HDCP issue?

Section "DVI to HDMI Cables:" has the answer
"...a warning: it's not uncommon for people to try to hook analog devices up to an HDMI connection by chaining adapters and cables; for example, by taking a VGA to DVI adapter and joining it with a DVI to HDMI cable. This simply won't work; everything will plug in just fine, but nothing will function because the signal formats are completely incompatible (and, if you could take an X-ray of the cable and adapters, you'd notice that the analog signal ultimately doesn't even get connected electrically to the other end of the chain). A DVI to HDMI connection will work ONLY to connect DVI-D single-link to HDMI, and not to connect component video, VGA, RGBHV or any other analog signal type."
