Hi, so I installed Windows 8 on an SSD a few months ago and had it set to AHCI mode in the BIOS before OS installation and everything worked just fine. Now a few days ago, I got bluescreened with 'KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE'.

The machine rebooted but asked me to reset the BIOS for some reason and I had no choice but to do it. So I did and it went back to IDE mode upon reset. When I try switching to AHCI mode now, the machine will crash and wont go into the OS but if I let it remain on IDE mode it works fine. I don't want to lose out on the performance benefits of AHCI mode. Any suggestions?

PS: I tried the registry hack but the start values in those 2 keys were already set to 0 anyway

well ACHI Has little to no performance on a SSD. For SSD its TRIM. ACHI is mainly for Disk Drives.

Go to your windows folder and then minidump and try to upload all the DMP files to a filesharing site and post back with link so we can look at them

It's a pretty old motherboard (Asus P5Q-E) so I doubt there are any BIOS updates. The windows copy is legit. Will run mem-test and get back with the results.
