I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I want to downgrade back to Windows 8.1 but in settings when I press go back to windows 8.1 it says Something went wrong No changes were made. I upgraded 4 days ago so I should be able to downgrade.

I haven't deleted any files/folders but I have downloaded a fileIt seems that you'll have to stick with Windows 10 or install other version from scratch.
Maybe during the 4 trial days you have deleted or moved some files or folders that you shouldn't.
Ok I'll do that. You can do it by doing a clean reinstall of Windows 8.1.
But, what’s wrong with Windows 10?
On relevant hardware, Win 10 is no slower than 8.1 or 7.Ok I'll do that.
Windows 10 is really slow

He apparently tried that, and it failed. Can't you use the rollback feature on Windows 10 to go back to 8.1, or doesn't it work like that?

All we got was "Windows 10 is really slow "Having 4GB RAM isn't critical, unless you run some RAM hungry apps, Windows 10 can manage pretty well with 4GB RAM.
But as @USAFRet said, the HDD is a handicap, you should upgrade to SSD.
