cant download KB955020 SP1

I have Windows Vista home basic with IE7 Dell inpiron 51 computer desk top, I just recovered my system after the blue screen of death so now I am updating befor I go any further and loose it all again, everything seems good except the updating with this [wont update code 8007045D and KB955020] Kb955020 witch I bielive is service pack 1 , .can I go right to sevice pack 2 without the SP1 installed ? and where do I save it in dowmload files or where and my options are to download Fix it wizzard or Welocome to Microsoft update? maybe hide the update KB 955020 and restart the computer and try again or what eventually I want to udate to IE8 or IE9 thne fire fox or google chrome but I cant do this with out the servie pack 2 installed IM stuck oplease help?

try yourself a sfc /scannow from command prompt... and you do need 1 before 2. im looking into it more.

Its an automated tool. Just open a command prompt with administrative privileges and type sfc /scannow. Just like that. Just let it run, restart and try windows updates

OK I fixed the instaltion how ever

what I need to know if I install service pack 2 will it cause any problems because I have IE 7 . every time as web site suggests I upgrade for free to IE9 ,when I try it says your system needs service pack 2 so can I install service pack 2?

so service pack 1 worked now? good to hear if i read that right. yes. you can jump straight to sp2 as long as sp 1 is installed. http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/7/7/E77CBA41-0B6B-4398-BBBF-EE121EEC0535/Windows6.0-KB948465-X86.exe that should be a direct download for service pack 2. you can save it wherever you like, when its done downloading just double click it. it may fail, but if sp1 just went through, sp2 should work like a charm! let me know if this helps


you can also check to see if you are on sp1 or not by running winver just type that into the run comand bar or by typing it right into the search on the start menu.

Obviously 7 is better, but it is also an expense and a pain to install a system builder copy if you have little experience. The goal here is to get this machine functional. I am assuming suzonka used the dell recovery to restore this.
