Can't download Russian ebooks

I have Windows Vista Home Base/Microsoft Office 7.
I able to read and type in Russian.
After download ebook in Russian I have a message: wrong contest , invalid/missing files...and it's not readable.
At work I have Windows XP and no problem with download in Russian.
May be someone knows how to deal with this?

Go to Windows Update inside your Vista computer, select "Custom" or "Optional Updates ". There you should see a "Russian Language Pack" as a choice, or something similar. Select it and download and install it. I believe that will fix your ebook.

Yes, it looks like Vista Home cannot download language packs, only the Vista Ultimate and another have them available. From what I gather, the packs for your Vista were discontinued back in 2007, probably to help make the more expensive Vistas more attractive.

You didn't say what version of ebook you are reading - pdf? The Adobe Digital Edition has other languages, but not Russian.

If it is a Microsoft Reader, that only works up to Windows XP, not Vista.

ebooks are coming in rtf, txt, doc, html, fb2 formats and then I have to change them to PDF to install to my jetbook.
Do you know how much will cost for me to update for Ultimate Vista?

Okay, if I understand correctly, you have Word installed on your computer and Word is opening your downloaded book file. To fix this, you would right click on the downloaded book file (unless it is a zip file). When you right click on it, you will get a menu of choices, so pick "Open with" and then click "Choose Program..." and hopefully, your e-reader program will be one of the choices. Click on the e-reader program. That will associate the book file with your e-reader. Try that out.
