I have a corrupted 'long file name' in my recycler folder that can't be
deleted - I have already searched previous posts for similar issues and
answers from those incidents aren't helpful, any insight will be highly
appreciated.

Go to Kelly's site at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm. Click
on "R", scroll to "Recycle", and look at some of the suggestions.

Have you tried:
Right click on Recycle Bin icon > Properties > set max size (pct) to 0%
> Ok > reboot > login ?
