Description of Issue:
I installed Windows 10 on my HDD a few weeks ago, and then cloned it to my new SSD afterwards deleting any unnecessary files from both (i.e. Non-OS and Non-program files already on HDD from SDD, and OS stuff from HDD). Now, I boot from and store programs on my SSD and store Non-OS and Non-program files on my HDD. The issue that seems to have occurred is that by cloning the HDD over without using some other method, AHCI mode which I know will help things run faster on my SSD was somehow disabled and now I am unable to enable it through my BIOS (couldn't find any option in my BIOS settings whatsoever, only thing that came close was something about RAID) settings. I researched how to do this online without loosing any of my personal files (i.e. having to do a clean install) but I was unable to find anything that worked for my specific situation.

I would like to enable AHCI mode on my SSD so I can have better performance and so that I can install the Windows 10 November update (Windows 10 Home, version 1511, 10586) which I am unable to do due to this issue. Is there a way to enable AHCI mode on my laptop's SSD without deleting any of my files or having to do a clean install of the OS and re-add the programs to the drive?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance for any help!

first issue is the AHCI Mode in bios problem, use this link to fix that first. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/enable-ahci-on-hp-envy-dv7-7250us/td-p/3711316
After that do as follows.....
1. Run Command Prompt as Admin
2. Invoke a Safe Mode boot with the command: bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal
3. Restart the PC and enter your BIOS during bootup.
4. Change from IDE to Raid mode then Save & Exit.
5. Windows 10 will launch in Safe Mode.
6. Right click the Window icon and select to run the Command Prompt in Admin mode from among the various options.
7. Cancel Safe Mode booting with the command: bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot
8. Restart your PC once more and this time it will boot up normally but with AHCI mode activated.

I did steps 1-3 fine, however, the BIOS still did not have an AHCI option so I was unable to change anything. I attached screenshots of what my BIOS looked like after doing steps 1-3 (i.e. exactly the same as before)

P.S.
There is nothing in device manager that says "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" where AHCI is supposed to be.

Hi cooperbeaman,

I had same problem with this AHCI SATA mode: BIOS didn't permit this change to enable boot in AHCI mode.
Only possibility it seems is to upgrade BIOS if possible, otherwise you can't select AHCI mode at SATA mode.
So, contact manufacturer of your system/website download and try to get last BIOS for your computer.
As my system is a bit old, there is no newer BIOS that support AHCI mode, so only possiblity to reach better write/read at Magician software was to enable RAPIDmode at Magician software.

Hope that helps,
Regards
Rui

Thanks Rui!
I have already enabled RAPID mode within the samsung magician software, and it has indeed sped up the read and write speeds of my SSD, but now I'm starting to wonder if this is a hardware issue, or a BIOS/Software issue. If it is simply a BIOS/Software issue, then there should be a way to mod the BIOS or do something else that would allow me to override the default settings to successfully enable AHCI mode. It's not that my computer will fail if I enable AHCI mode, it's the fact that there is no way that I know of to currently do so.

Have you done this, beside going to BIOS? http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/22631-ahci-enable-windows-8-windows-10-after-installation.html

Thanks.
I've heard this before, but I'm skeptical.
Why is the Samsung Magician Software telling me that AHCI is disabled then?
How can I verify for sure that AHCI is indeed enabled?

Thanks ruimanalmeida
I have tried these steps before, however AHCI remained disabled within my system as I was not able to complete the step regarding enabling AHCI within the BIOS/UEFI because as I mentioned earlier, that option was not available within my BIOS.

I think there is a way to modify the BIOS to have this option but I'm not sure which one to install.
