I've been unable to enable XMP, whenever i save and quit in bios i get an error message and have to roll back the changes to 2133mhz which is the MOBO highest speed for rams.

I have an i5-6600.

If i use it at 2133mhz everything seems to be working perfectly (I use the pc for gaming mostly)

Is it possible that the ram is deffective?

EDIT: I found the kit listed as supported ram for this motherboard

Whenever i turn on xmp this shows: :The system has experienced a boot failure possibly due to incorrect configuration
Previous bios settings may not be compatible with current hardware state."

Hi Alfie,

I had a similar issue with my Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI and my 8Go G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR4-3000.
With the previous Bios version F6, everything worked fine with XMP enabled and the RAM frequency at 3000MHz. However, after I flashed the Bios to version F20, my PC failed to boot with XMP enabled, and it displayed the same error message.

My solution was to enable XMP in the bios, and set manually the RAM frequency. Note that NOT ALL frequencies are accepted. For an unkown reason, the computer could boot at 2933MHz, 3066MHz or 3200MHz, but it failed at 2800MHz or 3000MHz.

Hope this can help you.

Update: I flashed the bios to versoin F21 with the file from Gigabyte website, and it worked. The motherboard can boot with the default settings of the RAM XMP at 3000MHz.

Hi Alfie :)

Your CPU officially supports DDR4-1866/2133Mhz so anything above that is considered an OC and not the JDEC standard. It is even worse if your MB does not support the rated speed of your RAM.

What this means is that your CPU may not recognize your XMP profile and would default to 2133Mhz.

You can try to change Primary Timings and DIMM voltage to the SPD info in CPUz however there is no guarantee. Very often you can OC the CPU then increase DRAM frequency and voltage however it can be a frustrating exercise to get them to work.

It's always best to consult the MB QVL list for RAM kits that have been tested to work using the CPU rated frequency in conjunction with your MB.

To avoid further frustration consider returning your RAM for a kit that has been tested to work with the MB if Bios changes don't work for you.

Very bad. overclocked memory usually just takes some tweaking although he might not get 2800 from it their no reason to send the memory back.

Post a link to your exact memory you bought.
If this is it.

Then go into BIOS and manually set the timing, speed, and voltage.
17-17-17-37 2800 for the voltage instead of 1.2 volts set it at 1.25 volts.
If that fails the go back into BIOS and set everything the same but set the speed to 2666.

Quoting me and saying Very bad Zerk2012.? :)
Just exactly what is very bad.? and not just YOUR opinion, show some proof what is Very bad then some credence may be attributed to your post. You do this a lot and its not befitting of someone who considers themselves a Grandmaster.
