Can't figure out what is wrong with my friend's newly built pc

Hello,

I recently built a brand new gaming pc for a friend of mine. When he played Guild Wars 2 the pc randomly shut down after a few minutes. I thought it was weird so I went over and stresstested the system and after about 8 minutes the screen turned black and it sounded like a pc crash. This has also happened today when my friend tried to play Skyrim or The Witcher 3. Although this is something that does not occur when playing a game like League of Legends or Osu. I thought about the pc overheating, but the temperatures never hit too high. The temps are about CPUmax : 65C & GPUmax : 70C

The system specs are:
i5-4690k
msi z87-g43
asus gtx970 strix
8gb balistix ram
1tb seagate baracuda hd
xfx 550w psu
arctic freezer 7

The system uses the latest drivers and all.

Als another problem he has been having that I have not been able to solve. Whenever the pc is restarted (from the start menu or just pressing the hard reset button), the pc restarts but there is no sound and the monitor does not get any data signal from the pc and the keyboard and mouse don't get any kind of connection. The only thing that works now is shutting down the pc by keeping the power button pressed for a few seconds.

I have tried:
-Re-installing Windows
-Updating the BIOS to 1.A (1.10 it says in the BIOS itself)
-Checking if the gpu is corectly installed

I hope somebody will be able to help me out here.

what is the full model name of your PSU? Have you done any overclocking on your PC? For how long has your friend had this PSU?

Sounds like the issue is only occurring when stress testing, or playing graphically intensive games.

Do you have a known good power supply around that you can test the computer with? This will help rule out the power supply as a potential issue, or if it is causing the issue, you will then know what the problem is.

look over this and see how his psu did not seem to hold its voltages and may of been the cause of these issues

you may want to check the psu to insure its not dropping out and kicking things off ??

The power supply is a XFX 550Watt Core Edition 80+ bronze certified psu.
We bought the psu a few days before we started building from a reputable retailer.

I have my former seasonic 520Watt psu lying around somewhere, i will try to test if that works.

Tried out the Seasonic PSU todat without any succes.
I am going to try out a Corsair RM1000 monday.

If that doesn't work im going to be ready to kill myself (not really)

you cant get any error reports ?? blue screen viewer type thing or any in windows event log viewer ?? maybe a driver or hardware issue whats the chance of 2 psu not working ?? but you never know

try the Seagate seatool to test the harddrive

I find it odd with them shutdowns its not showing a bsod on the screen

I will also assume your not doing any overclocking ?

your sure you did not get any bent pins installing the cpu ??

thinking on it some and you say the screen goes black I guess every time ? try a older driver for the vid card as well , with the screen going black or no display it may be a bad card as well ? do you have a extra / back up card to try out or have you tried that card in another computer to see ???
