[SOLVED] Cant figure out why I'm getting BSOD on a game

So I am getting BSOD only when I am playing certain games. The two ive noticed are FIFA 23 and Battlefield 5. I have played RDR2, Facry, GTA and have had no issues.

My CPU and GPU temps are 70-80cs when playing these games.

Getting BSOD DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I have freshly installed Windows twice now.
Checked RAM and passed 11 tests overnight with memtest86
I've run sfc scans
I've tested my hard drive with the built-in windows hard drive checker
I have tried updating all my drivers
I have no overclocking

Those temps are about the same in RDR2 and I play for hours with no issues. With Fifa/Battlefield I BSOD in 20mins

PC Specs: i9-10850K
MasterLiquid Lite 120mm (I think it may be an overheating problem)
1TB WD Blue SN550 Series
16GB (8GBx2) DDR4/3200MHz
Asus Z590 ATX
Windows 11
Monitor is LG 27GL83A-B"

some BSODS here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/mu7a7sae6oo9g8kpk0l6m/h?dl=0&rlkey=m36tomi534yqxmxpi8e3xlze2

Not sure what to do anymore.

Solution
Solution: Disable TURBO BOOST in your Bios settings. It is under Advanced > CPU Power Management. I guess for some reason EA Play doesnt like CPU Coreclock speeds to fluctuate with some boards/CPUS and causes it to crash.
PSU: Make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?

History of heavy use for gaming, video editing, any bit-mining even?

Dont have the exact model (at work) but my order has 800 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Gold Certified Power Supply

This entire build was exactly two years ago.

Hasnt been really used for heavy gaming i would say. MAybe 10hrs a a week? and not every week/ no video editing or bit mining. Just casual gaming

Could not preview the dump files - the host site stating " .dmp files can’t currently be previewed."

Take a look in Reliability History and Event Viewer for any error codes, warnings or even informational events that were captured just before or at the time of the BSOD's.

Reliability History is easier to use and understand. The timeline may reveal both errors and/or patterns of errors.

Increasing numbers of errors and varying errors make the PSU suspect.

Event Viewer requires more time and effort.

To help with Event Viewer:

Any given error/entry can be clicked for more detailed information. The details may or may not be helpful.

That all said, the 2 year old PSU may be starting to falter and fail. Especially with more demanding games.

PSU may be nearing its' built in EOL (End of Life) and no longer able to respond to sudden changes in power demands.

Likely some threshold value: a demand for X watts is okay. X+1 watts then BSODs. Gets worse as the PSU degrades.

But watch the errors before doing anything.

And if anything is in question, take a screenshot and post here via imgur (www.imgur.com).

You have to download them as they are only uploaded to a dropbox. Can't preview them, What is confusing this ONLY happens on fifa23. I play RDR2, which is more demanding and have no issues with it at all. Also, play Farcry, Valorant, CS, FF14, etc no issues. if it was failing hardware wouldn't it always happen? I only ever BSOD when playing FIFA23 or Battlefield (both are on EA Play)

For more details, you would have to download the .dmp files and view them, but i pasted what I could or had in pastebin i tried to separate with ====new bsod====

Common factor = EA Play. Correct?

From Pastebin, Line 35:

"An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses. "

Appears at 297, 566, and re-occurs thereafter.

I suggest manually downloading the GPU drivers via the manufacturer's website. Reinstall and reconfigure. No third party tools or installers.

Just as an initial, straightforward attempt to resolve the matter. (Does not directly address why only FIFA23 or Battlefield are affected..... conceded.)

Failing that then try reinstalling the EA games. Maybe just one or the other as a first test.

Correct they are both on EA Play Platform. When I use steam it has no issue or other platforms. Currently, I did a fresh install about 3 days ago of Windows 11. The only game I have is Fifa 23 right now.

Your saying going to Nvidia.com and downloading the latest GPU drivers? I use the Nvidia GeForce Experience that checks/updates automatically. Also, remove FIFA23 and re-install after I install the new drivers.

Any special way to remove the old drivers?

Of the 8 dumps you upload, 7 of them show FIFA23.exe as the process in control. These all fail for various reasons but all the bugchecks are typical third-party driver foul-ups. The other dump shows the graphics driver (nvlddmkm.sys) as th likely problem - it's the only third-party driver on the call stack. Three of the other dumps also show graphiocs card accesses taking place, the Directx drivers are on the call stack (dxgkrnl.sys and dxgmms2.sys).

The version of nvlddmkm.sys that you have installed is very recent...

I would suggest firstly removing EasyAntiCheat (even temporarily) to see whether the problem resolves. Failing that I'd roll back to the immediatly prior Nvidia graphics driver (nvlddmkm.sys), and failing that I'd check the Fifa23 or EA forum to see whether these are known issues.

Yeah I saw the anticheat one and the only recommendation they had is install it with no AV enabled. The EA support is pretty much useless.

I have reinstall the anticheat a few times as maybe it wasn't installed properly, but no luck and I believe it is required to install for the game fifa 23 to work. This is the only game I bsod on or battlefield which are both ea games that require it. I will try to see if it's possible to pay the game offline without it installed.

I did remove my old drivers with ddu last night but reinstalled the latest. Haven't been able to test it yet though.

Yes all the bsod are when I'm playing fifa 23

-I don't think ea anticheat is the same as easyanticheat.
-bunch of interesting bugchecks you have

I would do the following:
-google how to make windows clear the pagefile.sys on shutdown.
make the registry changes.
- Download Intel Drivers and Software run and hopefully it will update your old storage driver for you.

- uninstall asus armory crate and disable it in bios (if you have it installed) Note: your system had a strange underclock. run the AI Suite 3 Cleaner utility from here:
PRIME Z590-V|Motherboards|ASUS Global
install the chipset driver from the same location.

update your wireless ethernet driver (rtwlane.sys)
Realtek USB FE/GB/2.5G/Gaming Ethernet Family Controller Software - Realtek Semiconductor

disable
RTCore64.sys (MSI Afterburner Real-Time Monitoring Core )
using microsoft autoruns from here:Autoruns for Windows - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn

run cmd.exe as an admin then run
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

reboot:
update the bios to the current version and run the intel me update from here:
PRIME Z590-V|Motherboards|ASUS Global
(under bios and firmware)

you might reinstall eaanticheat:
How to install and troubleshoot EA anticheat on your PC

at this point i would delete the old minidump files and retest for failures.

Note: there are reasons for each step but it takes a bit of time to explain each reason.
for example, one bugcheck showed a corrupted stack, but the raw stack showed windows defender driver messing up. But when I look at the driver it is corrupted. Anti virus drivers get corrupted when they are hacked, or sometimes with old network drivers. Your network driver was old (2019) . Pagefile.sys gets corrupted with certain intel storage driver versions the intel update should grab the updated storage driver. too many reasons to list. best to do all the updates and delete the old minidumps and just look at the new ones.

Its a pretty fresh install of WIndows like a week old not sure where the other anticheat would come from but i will look at it when I am back at my pc.

Drivers for my CPU?

I thought I had armory crate disabled , but again ill double check and will run that cleaner. I have tried installing the chipset driver, but never installs

Will update the wireless driver

I will uninstall msi afterburner

I did a tuneup log here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/a3fatc9kxyngzz4/Tuneup.log?dl=0

I am fairly positive I am on the latest bios, but i can re-load it if you feel it would help.

I have reinstalled EA anticheat a few times now, but ill remove the old one and install it from your link. Generally, i let the game do it itself.

Will delete all old logs and make a v2 folder after the changes.

main thing is to make sure the pagefile.sys is deleted and an a new one is created. (via registry change and shutdown or by turning off virtual memory and turning it back on)

I guess: let me know if you choose not to do something on the list.

I will do all of them just to be on the safe side. The only one I'm not sure what you want me to do is the Intel one. Get the drivers for my i9-10850k? What drivers?

I will do all of them just to be on the safe side. The only one I'm not sure what you want me to do is the Intel one. Get the drivers for my i9-10850k? What drivers?

try this intel link
Intel® Driver & Support Assistant
it will scan and install the updated drivers.
some old version of the intel storage driver had a bug where it would corrupt the pagefile.sys over time during sleep/wake cycles.
(having the system delete the pagefile.sys on shutdown would be a work around for this bug). getting the new driver should be a fix. I would install the intel support assist, install the drivers then uninstall the app since you will rarely need it.

i think the clear the pagefile on shutdown article for the registry setting should work. It would help clear malware from the pagefile or bugs introduced by drivers leaking memory or that have sleep issues.

So I am getting BSOD only when I am playing certain games. The two ive noticed are FIFA 23 and Battlefield 5. I have played RDR2, Facry, GTA and have had no issues.

My CPU and GPU temps are 70-80cs when playing these games.

Getting BSOD DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I have freshly installed Windows twice now.
Checked RAM and passed 11 tests overnight with memtest86
I've run sfc scans
I've tested my hard drive with the built-in windows hard drive checker
I have tried updating all my drivers
I have no overclocking

Those temps are about the same in RDR2 and I play for hours with no issues. With Fifa/Battlefield I BSOD in 20mins

PC Specs: i9-10850K
MasterLiquid Lite 120mm (I think it may be an overheating problem)
1TB WD Blue SN550 Series
16GB (8GBx2) DDR4/3200MHz
Asus Z590 ATX
Windows 11
Monitor is LG 27GL83A-B"

some BSODS here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/mu7a7sae6oo9g8kpk0l6m/h?dl=0&rlkey=m36tomi534yqxmxpi8e3xlze2

Not sure what to do anymore.
Hey there,

Do you have Asus Armoury Crate installed?

I had a similar issues recently. It was mostly to do with Easy Anti cheat. It turned out to be Asus Armoury software being picked up as something bad on Easy Anti Cheat.

I uninstalled Asus Armoury. All games ran flawlessly from then on.

this was the intel chipset driver for your motherboard vendors website:

Intel Gaussian and Neural Accelerator Driver V3.0.0.1400 For Windows 11 64-bit.
Version 3.0.0.1400
2.33 MB
2021/10/22
What is the Intel® Gaussian Mixture Model - Neural Network...
i just did not know if it got updated with the general intel driver assistant program.

(the driver might be used for 11th generation processors, rather than 10th gen. I am not sure)
check control panel device manger for uninstalled device
Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1911
looks like a bios setting activates the device

BSOD still after i did all these. I also disabled Armoury Create from BIOS.

Did the clear pagefile.sys through registry.

Ran the AI Suite cleaner

Chipset i hit run, but nothing happens after it loads.

Updated Wireless ethernet

Uninstalled MSI afterburner

Did a resstorehealth

Bios was updated to the latest already so did not do it again.

removed ea anti-cheat and re-installed it.

Here is the DMP file to download after all the changes:

-most of the drivers were updated, except for rtwlane.sys
- the bugcheck seems to be coming out of the syswow64 subsystem
this can mean that one of the files has been modified or the actual game (FIFA23.exe) is making a bad call.
the proper information on the subsystem is not included in the minidump. IE i can not check the files. I think I would need a full dump.

normally, you would just do a dism.exe repair but I am not sure it repair the subsystem. I also could not find a current way of removing the subsystem and reinstalling it. (found one that was very old 2006)

you might consider doing a windows reinstall to get a new setup of the windows 32 on windows 64 subsystem.

The memory.dmp file in c/windows is what you need?

Not 100% sure what you mean on the windows 32 part.

games on windows with 64 bit processors actually run in a subsystem that is 32bits. it is called syswow64 (converts 32 bit to 64 bit windows.

reinstall of windows will reinstall the subsystem. I could not find a good way of fixing problems in the subsystem without reinstalling windows. malware can infect the 32bit subsystem then worm its way into the base of windows.

the factory overclocked card could be the problem. look up your cards base clock frequencies and use a tool to set them to the defaults to see if the problem goes away. I think the base clock is 1500 MHz
with a boost clock of 1700 MHz

your card has Core Clocks 1755 MHz
GeForce RTX™ 3070 VENTUS 2X OC (msi.com)

Hmm can't find the core clock base, but would the msi afterburner be able to?
