So, I have a brand new system that I built...

* Gigabyte GA-Z87M-D3H Z87 Motherboard
* Intel Core i5-4670K Quad-Core Desktop
3.4 GHZ processor with 6 MB Cache
* 16gb PNY Optima DDR3 PC310666 RAM
* EVGA GeForce 660ti DDR5 2gb ram
* Seagate 1 TB SS Hybrid Drive
* Ultra 650W Modular PSU

I am running a split screen on DVI and HDMI. System is Windows 8.1

For about a month, I had absolutely no problems with my computer, then I started having weird computer issues. Initially, my monitors would freeze, and then go blank, and then maybe come back up. I would also lose my USB ports and mouse/keyboard (both USB). At one point, I had Microsoft try to dianose the problem...they wound up wiping out Windows 8.1 and starting over again... none of this seemed to help the problem. Eventually, after a fresh install of Win 8.1, it seemed my problems stopped for about a week.

During this time, Microsoft suggested that it might be a bad video card.... I had started out with a Galaxy GeForce 650ti with boost, but eventually wound up putting in my current EVGA 670ti about two weeks ago. That upgrade seemed to help in stopping the lockups until about a week ago......My computer seemed to run fine for a few days,without a hiccup, until Sunday afternoon, when I started locking up again. This time, I still had usb power, only no monitor, and my mouse would lock up and cursor would disppear. On one of my freezes, the monitors actually popped back up and a window indicated that the dread "nvlddmkm driver has crashed but successfuly recovered" usually, I just se a generic Windows error that says an unexpected crash occured. Crashes would happen completely a random, even when it would be idling.

I have done so much troubleshooting, I am out of options. I have updated my updated my video drivers, so I know they're good, and I have also ensured that I have ruled out bad printer drivers, a faulty Hauppauge tuner card, and of course, a bad video card. The only other areas that might be creating this problem are: My PSU, my main board, or bad RAM. I even tried to switch to a different power rail on my PSU. I need help and I am running out of options.

Thanks.....

RL

Is there a firmware upgrade for the hybrid hard drive? Try that

If not then

strip it to the minimum of components [ ie no tv card, no network card etc ]

reinstall windows + the mb drivers [ but not the bloatware and tuning tools ]

install the latest graphics driver

Is it still behaving the same way? If it is then that will confirm a hardware problem

To clarify, it is a stick tuner and that has been removed. I have also tried a complete Windows 8.1 reinstall and update of my board's drivers. I just have to figure out how to check my ram, PSU, or board. Someone told me that PNY isn't that great, that I should go for Corsair or Freedom, and that it is less likely to have a bad PSU or Board....both are brand spanking new.....all diagnostics show no problems with core temps, board temps, other than a weird reading from TMP01n1, which shows 127celsius..... but then again, it seems lots of boards have this issue. I'm going crazy with this, so I'm going to see if I can update my HD.:fou:
