I have two instances of windows installed, when I boot it asks which volume id like to boot to, one is listed as volume 8 but the other has no volume #

Volume 8 boots perfectly

if i boot to the 2nd instance my PC crashes

How can i find this 2nd instance and delete it so it always boots to vol 8

Solution
in the search box type "msconfig"

under the boot tab you should see both options that show on the boot menu. the one that works has "Current OS" after it.

select THE OTHER ONE FROM THE LIST and chose delete from the options below it. apply it and reboot.

done :)

note: this does not remove whatever it was that put itself in the boot menu like that. it's possible there is some rogue half finished windows install on a partition somewhere taking up space.

you should look around and see if that is true. delete whatever it is to save the space.

may not be anything there to find but worth a few minutes to look around
