I was putting a new computer together and when i finished assembling it and turned it on and went into the bios it didnt recognize the HD or CD drives. It found the floppy and everything else seemed to be working. I cant even open my cd drives. I have already tried switching power supplies and the same problem occured.

Well, if they are SATA, maybe you have to activate the controller in BIOS. As for CD, maybe that you plug them backward. Red stripe is pin one and they must be correctly plugged. Some wires are keyed, others are not. Last, tell us more about your system, as what mobo, and so on...We cannot guess everything! Then read the BIOS section in your MANUAL..very usefull to learn about configuration settings.

-Always put the blame on you first, then on the hardware !!!

If your cables aren't keyed, make sure you've put the hard drive and CD-ROM cables with the red stripe on the right as you face the rear of the drive, and lined up to pin 1 (marked) on the motherboard. If you've put them both on the same cable, make sure your master/slave jumpers are correct. If your board has a third-party controller for a 3rd or 4th IDE connection, you're better off to use the first or second which is controlled by the chipset.
