This isn't really a case mod, but it's a question about the case for the HP TP01-1214 Desktop PC. I have a customer who bought this model PC without a DVD drive in it. Now they would like to add one. I cannot find a DVD drive for this model HP (TP01-1214). But I know this case is used for several HP models. Does anyone know which type of model is compatible with this case that I could look for a DVD drive for? Thanks!

I tried to hunt down the part using it's part number, 849055-hc3,

A brand new unit might cost you an arm and a leg or at the very least the cost of half the system. You might want to suggest getting an external optical drive, one that is driven by USB. You can then have a secondary slim drive caddy to house another storage drive inside the prebuilt. Even if you are adamant about the internal ODD, you might have an issue whereby the fascia isn't lined up with the chassis or a lack thereof.

As Lutfij indicates, an external drive is definitely more economical. The scarcity of slot drives has resulted in outrageous prices:

plus you would have to first make sure that you could mount it in the case and a special adapter is needed to connect the sata and power cables

so you will need to talk to the client as to which strategy to pursue and what will happen if it doesn't work out.
