Alright here goes, now im not totally sure this is the forum for this[im new here] but point me in the right direction if im wrong. I recently picked up some new PC components from tigerdirect got them, no issues except for the amount of lag i am getting from fullscreen programs [World of warcraft, Left 4 Dead, Call Of Duty : World at war].

I usually run at 1680x1050 Wide to fit my monitors resolution. In games such as WoW i have 5-15 FPS just about medium settings.

I was just wondering if there was anything people could suggest in order for me to up my frame rate. In games like Call of duty and Left 4 Dead, i run fine except for some points my game seizes up entirely for a few second then resumes, running fine. Only the game seizes no other programs running [Ventrilo,Winamp] are affected.

Specs are as follows:

O.S.: Windows XP x64 Professional SP2
CPU: AMD Phenom 2.2ghz 9500 Quad Core
Motherboard: MSI K9A2-Platinum AMD790fx based.
Hard Disk:Maxtor 100gb SATA 7200rpm
Graphics Card: VisionTek Radeon 3870HD 512 gddr4
Monitor:Samsung 21.6" LCD display
Memory: OCZ Platinum Revision-2 PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel 4Gb

Check your CPU temps; it may be throttling.

AFAIK the 3870 should be able to destroy WOW. I think your CPU is the culprit somehow. Whether it is throttling, faulty, or something else remains to be seen. I could be way off, too. That's just my initial gut reaction...

What is the make and model of your power supply?

Good luck man

make sure you cheak that all of you drivers are up to date, that would be the first thing that i would do.

you said that you got "some new componants" , what did you get as it may be an idea to re-install your os(depends on what you got, if you got a mobo then definatly).

Agreed, try the lastest drivers if you havent already. You could also try some of the archived drivers if the latest one isnt perofrming that well.

Throttling, how would i go about checking and adjusting 🙁

My PSU is a Thermaltake TR2-430w [i dont know might it be a PSU issue, maybey i need more power.?]

Drivers and utilities, all up to date from MSI\ATi, also have reinstalled OS.

Figured id throw this tid bit of info in.

I put this system together about 8 days ago, before it i had :
[ i only upgraded the mobo memory and CPU]

[939] ASUS A8N-SLi SE

2GB Kingston RAM PC3200 DDR2

AMD Athlon x64 1.8Ghz socket [939]

The results were almost the same but a fair bit worse. Also, i just reinstalled my catalyst drivers and im basically up to 21FPS in a normal zone in WoW alittle bit better but i still get random seizes of the game for 1-3 seconds.

have you ever changed anything in the bios, if you have go into the bios and load setup defaults.

If that doesnt work then i would start swapping componants to try and pin point the problem. I would start with the power supply or ram.

Sounds like your games are freezing waiting for the HDD to fetch data. Make sure that any antivirus programs are disabled. You're HDD might also be failing.
