Hello all,
I am sorry if I am asking this questing and has been answer before but I was unable to find any link or answer to it.. I have new PC and have my OS on a 250gb ssd and started to download stuff but I wish to use my 2nd hard drive as my main (keeping the os on ssd) but I do not see it any where and I dont know how to use it. I do see it when I run cmd/diskpart and list so I know its some where I also see it in disk management as DISK1 unknowing Not initialized it says and disk0 is my ssd.. Any clue how I go about doing this? my 2nd drive is wd 1tb.
windows 8.1
thanks

Solution

Assign a drive letter, any drive letter. Ignore the NTFS folder option

But when it asks you to format the volume as something like fat32, exfat, or ntfs, choose NTFS

Reyaz123 the video shows right clicking and going to "New Simple Volume" It does not let me do that. only thing lets me do is click properties or if i go over a little and right click disk1 says properties or Initialize.. in the box says 931.51 GB Unallocated .
thanks for any help

Oh, have you tried clicking on "initialize"? Or is it greyed out?

If you can click on initialize, keep pressing ok on the options that come up on screen, and then you should be able to do the "new simple volume" steps

Yes it will let me click it and when I do it asks me for MBR (master boot record) that has a dot on it ready and the other is GPT (guid partition table) I take it I should click the MBR one as it is right? and this wont delete my OP will it? sorry for the noob questions and I thank you so much for the help =)

Sorry I mean my OS on my ssd (will it delete it) ?. I dont have any thing on the 2nd hard dive that's why im trying to use it.. keep my OS on my ssd and all other files on my 2nd drive (the 1tb wd). thanks for the feedback just don't want to do that and i cant log back on to my pc lol if it even does that I'm clueless as you can see lol

Any data, including the OS on your SSD will be deleted with initialization.

I might have confused it here. So you are using your HDD to store the data on, but your SSD has the OS to boot from?

Just read your updated post. If your 1tb drive doesn't have important data on it, go ahead and initialize it.

yeah my OS is on my ssd on disk0 C: and I notice I been downloading stuff on to it but I dont want to .. I want to use the 1tb to keep downloads etc on. That's when I posted on here, so I can go ahead and initialize the Disk1 ? ( that's my 2nd hard drive I'm sure lol) sorry for the confusing.

The drive that your OS is installed on will always be your main drive.
Here are suggestions (instead of initializing 2nd hard drive)

1.Go into your browser settings and change the download folder to a folder in the secondary drive
2.When running an installer file for a program, it will ask you to select the path you want to install to. Click browse, and select/create a folder from the secondary hard drive to install to

3. If the above steps aren't a good option to you, you can try this too http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/10446-changing-default-storage-win-8-a.html

Ok done...... its now asking " Assign the following drive letter" has B there.... or there is 2 more options
"Mount the following empty NTFS folder" and the browse
and last one is
"Do not assign a drive letter or drive path".
