I am running XP, have the latest driver (5672), and I have an Nvidia icon in
my taskbar, but I cannot access the desktop manager (does not appear in
control panel and although "enable" appears as an option off the taskbar
icon, "disable" remains permanently clicked -- I cannot change it.) Any idea
how I can access the desktop manager? I was hoping to activate the popup
blocker. Thanks.

popup blocker???
If you got the drivers from winupdate, revert back to old drivers and update
from hardware manu.site only

Yep, the Nvidia site says 56.72 has a popup blocker, which is activated by
nview desktop manager (which I can't find). Machine often boots up without
the nview icon in my taskbar; if I reinstall driver, it reappears, but still
can't enable nview. As you say, the option is to roll back, but I was hoping
to make this work.

Try uninstall every nvidia driver from Add/Remove Program then reinstall
again. Or use the driver cleaner which I can not find that link at this
moment.
