Hello all,

I have just replaced my dead motherboard with a new slightly different one.

I had a P5B-VM SE, and I now have a P5B-VM V-P5G965, bought from here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332035499608

The BIOS is very old, and my computer has a bit of problem with such an old BIOS, such as "Intel CPU uCode loading" error when booting.
The system sometimes fails to boot Windows (7), resulting in reboot.
Shutdown doesn't complete on it's own; when Windows has shutdown, the system is still active and will require myself to manually turn the machine off.
And there are the occasional BSoD - I haven't had a BSoD for multiple years prior to motherboard change.

With all these problems, you can imagine I am quite desperate to upgrade.

I downloaded all available P5B-VM ROM files from Asus website onto two of my USB flashsticks (both FAT32 format), renamed the files so that it has max 8 characters. But I was unable to flash with an incompatible message.

I have also tried burning a CD but EZ Flash (Asus' flash platform) was unable to detect the CD.

I know Asus manager exists but it is not compatible with my system.

I am completely clueless as I have successfully updated motherboards before.

Any help, tips or input will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Derek

Turns out I have been downloading the wrong bios.
I cannot find the bios on the official Asus anywhere and have downloaded it (i know usually not recommended) from a third party source.

So if anyone who has the same old motherboard as I do and has the same problem, simply go here for the BIOS (I belive this is the most updated version):
www.driversguru.com/driverdetail/976421-ASUS+0802+Drivers+P5B-VM-ASUS-V-P5G965-0802.zip.html

Everything works as it should now

Sorry, I accidentally published before finishing my post, the OP is edited.

Thanks for replying.

The motherboard I have strangely doesn't even exist on the Asus website.

On their website, I found P5B-VM, I found P5B-VM SE, and I found other P5B ranges.
But not P5B-VM V-P5G965, which is the one I wanted.
The initial BIOS' I downloaded were all just for P5B-VM.

I was quite desperate, I downloaded all different P5B-VM range BIOS' - all didn't work.
I tried it all in different USB formats (FAT, FAT32, etc), again to no avail.

I tried to burn them onto CD, didn't work.

Quadruple checking the website to see if my exact model was there, which it wasn't.

I came here on the next day to bump this post, which no one answered to.

So I found a couple of websites that did have my model, and a couple of them had version 0802 - one of them was the link I posted.

Made sure I backed up BIOS then tried it. - and it worked.

I know it is not recommended to download third party, but I had no where to turn, man.

Ah I see, but my one has ASUS plastered all over it, as well as an ASUS splash-screen.
And all other P5B-xxxxx mobos were under ASUS, so I assumed ASUS.

Yeah, that is what annoyed me the most. There is V2 and V3 as well, but those are towers.
Am completely speechless why they adopted such a weird (can use more expressive terms) naming practices.

But thanks for your input man, much appreciated.
