hey all,

Usually with monitors I don't even bother with drivers, but I just bought a new 1440p Acer monitor and go figured, they have a driver on the website. I download the .zip file and extract it. I then go into Device Manager and under monitors where it says Generic PnP Monitor, i click properties and then click Update Driver. I manually point to the folder where the .inf file is located, but after I click next it tells me the best driver for my device is already installed (The Generic PnP driver from 2006), even though this newer Acer driver is from 2014. Any idea why this is happening, or how I can tell it to shut up and accept my driver? Never had this happen before. Thanks for any help in advance!

Just so you all know, the monitor is an Acer K272HUL 27" 1440p. I can give you the rest of my hardware specs if necessary, but I figured it wouldn't be in this case.

Hey Phillip,
I did exactly as you stated but when I try to browse to the autorun file I cant seem to find it in the list itself. I mean the file is present in the folder that I downloaded from the acer website but the update driver wizard doesnt show the file in the directory tree. Hence I am not able to choose the file in the first place. Please help :3

I just bought the ACER K272HUL 2560x1440. I was concerned about the drivers for the monitor. I know they always just say GenPNP. However, on my Hanns-G I got a driver for it. So I tried with this one. Only drivers for Win 7&8. No 10 64bit. Chatted with Acer. They simply stated what I figured. Video card does all the tuning. Monitor driver just makes sure they connect to each other. Win10 has any drivers it needs and then there is just the Vcard drivers.

Installing the actual drivers for the old monitor never made a diff. that I knew of. So I am inclined to believe what Acer chat tech is sharing and that it is fine. Not missing out on any 'better' quality picture, etc.

So FYI. I don't think there is a need to worry this further. OS drivers just to, for lack of better words, make monitor work prior to and in connection with GPU/Vcard drivers and control.
