Can't format hard drive

External hard drive was turned into CD Drive by some stupid software. Can't format via disk management or cmd. Appears as a CD-ROM drive under device manager. All the software I tried doesn't even recognize it. help please!!

What software did this?

Do you have anything that you need to keep on the drive?

If not then try using something like parted.exe from the command line to remove all partitions and create a new partition
