can't format hp flash drive

hp flash drive is write protected, how do i remove the write protection?

Hi Yohanne and welcome to the community!

I'd recommend that you try the pen drive with a different computer/device, to see if the same thing happens when you try to format it. If that doesn't help, you could try out some of the solutions for removing write protection from this article: http://www.wikihow.com/Disable-Write-Protection. You could also try the pen drive manufacturer's format tool, to see if you'd be able to fix it this way.
If none of the above works for you, I'd suggest that you try to RMA the flash drive (if it's still under warranty), or get a new one. It's not uncommon for a USB pen drive to be acting up like this when it fails.
