Hey all

I got an old 500GB WD hdd from my father so i decided to use it,i plug it into my systeme, and didnt found it in (my computer) so i go to disk management and i found it,okay now when i try to format it loads like 15 mins and then got an erreur saying that the hdd has been unplugged , as u are thinking now that the problem is my sata right ? well no,i have put a fully function sata (in case u r wondring how i am so sure i unplugged it from my DVD drive and it was working like a charm) now, tryied again and the same erreur again.

things i have tried:
1:formatting from disk management
2:formatting from hard disk low level format tool.
3:HDD regenerator is scanning now for bad sectors.......

any ideas if its a physical damage or software erreur ? please give me possible solutions.
Thank u in advance

Solution
Yes this indeed appears to be a physical error on the disk. One thing you can do to make sure is install CrystalDiskInfo and check the S.M.A.R.T readings on it.
It sounds like the drive could be defective. You should ask your dad if that's why he gave it to you (i.e. he couldn't get it to work & thought maybe you could). One other thing you could do would be to get an external enclosure and plugging it into a USB port.

Good luck.
