I bought and put to gether my pc about a year ago:
3ghz 800fsb intel chip
gigabyte 8knxp
Sapphire 9800pro 128mb ram graphics
1gig ddr
loads of HD space
etc. etc
and a 19inch samsung lcd moniter

When i pieced together the whole thing i realised that i couldn't put the resolution to 1280 as the picture went off the edge of my screen. In my nievity i simply thought the screen or graphics just didnt work at this res.

However, I have just put together my old 1.2gig as a media pc. In the process i linked it to my moniter, keyboard and mouse via a omni port switch (so that i could use the same moniter, mouse and keyboard for both pc's) and replaced my GeForce graphics with a new asus ATI Radeon 7000/T 64MB DDR TV-Out (AGP) graphics card so that i can have a s-video out.

Since loading this i have noticed that moniter optimisation tool happily sets the screen to 1280 and looks great, however my supposidly better ati 9800 wont.

I know that this isnt a graphics card hardware problem because i have had two sappire ati 9800 pro cards (fan died under warrenty on first). And i know it isnt a problem with the moniter because it works with the asus card.

Can anyone please shed some light on what i can do to rectify this.

I know very little about moniters but it seems a signal is sent to the screen on startup telling it what resolution clock speed etc to opperate at, and i dont think the signal is working on the ati 9800 pro as it still says that the resolution is 1024x720.

Please help.

Thanks

Jon

Someone please unwire me...the gadgets are taking over!

Did you load specific drivers for the Monitor, or is it just rcognized as a plug and play? Get the latest drivers from Samsung.

Also, it sounds like a refresh rate thing. Changing the refresh rate resizes how it fits on the screen. If you use both a TV and monitor, you may have a refresh rate of 60 Hz on the CRT. If the 9800 Pro is set to 70 Hz, 75 Hz, 85 Hz, it will display differently on your screen. If both are set to 1280x1024x32 with the same refresh rate and the same monitor drivers, it should be sized the same.
