Here is my set-up:
And as of now I'm using an HDMI cable, I'm not sure of the specifics as to it's grade. After some preliminary research I'm finding it seems to be my cable that's the weak link in preventing me from getting above this refresh rate. Is this the case? If so, could anyone advise a cable that I should be using alternatively that would get the job done for me and allow me to play games at 2560x1440p with a 144hz+ refresh rate (that is compatible with my hardware)?

Thanks in advance!

You need to use a DisplayPort cable. The monitor comes with it assuming you bought it new. If you stick to HDMI, you won't be able to use the higher refresh rate or G-Sync, which would be a massive waste of money as you are then functionally using just a barebones 60Hz display.

I have never seen a gaming oriented monitor from any major mfg. that didn't include all the necessary cables to use all available interfaces. Maybe cheaper 1080p60 displays not marketed towards gaming do, but not these upper tier products, and not OP's monitor in particular.

Maybe I should stop buying LG products because I haven't gotten anything but cheap HDMI cables with them. Even my newest FreeSync display. :)

If you purchased the monitor new it should come with one in the box, if not you'll find one at any computer shop and probably most shops that sell TVs'. The cost is fairly small and don't other with a 'premium' cable with gold plated connections, they're not worth the extra.
