I recently purchased a new asus monitor that states is has 1080p.
The model number is Asus va229n.

However since it doesn't have HDMI connecter I am using an VGA connected to an old Samsung laptop RF510. I couldn't get the native resolution for the monitor and have since tried updating the NVIDIA graphic drivers to the latest one and still to no avail. The latest driver gives higher resolution options but doesnt have the aspect ratio that the monitor supports.

Now currently the only usable resolution is 1366 x 768 which obviously is a little underwhelming.

I have tried to find the resolution also in the nvidia control panel and does not have the 1920 x 1080 option
Where am I going wrong?

edit * monitor model is Asus VA229N

It is because you are using a Vga 15 pin video output port of the laptop to connect to the stand alone monitor.

The 15 pin Vga video output port can only display analogue signals to the monitor.
Where each video output port used has a set range of display resolutions it can display Mikey.

In order to get the laptop to even display a 1080p scrren resolution a digital signal output must be sent to the monitor by using a digital out put from the laptop.

This can be a Dvi output, a hdmi output port, or a display port video out put of the laptop.
then using an adapter converter to one of the other two video out put ports depending on what type of video inputs the monitor has.
Hi Dose,

My mistake, the actual model is VA229N the 22 inch version that supports 1080.
However I only have the following options
1920 x 1200
1680 x 1050
1600 x 1200
1600 x 1024
1400 x 900
1366 x 768

Since only 1366 x 768 is the correct aspect ratio for the monitor. Only this is usable as of now. I can't for the life of me find how to get 1920 x 1080
