Can't get 2133 memory to run at 2133

Hi, I have an i7 4770k, z87-g43 gaming motherboard with 4x ripjaws x series 2133Mhz RAM model F3-17000CL11-4GBZL. Whenever I try to run the ram higher than 1600 Mhz it fails, I tried using OC genie, it fails, I tried using the X.M.P profiles, they fail, tried running any voltage between 1.5 and 1.65v with 2133Mhz it fails. If anyone has any idea what I could do it would be greatly appreciated.

Were these bought as single sticks (as the model # seems to indicate) if so they may not want to play together. If so make sure you have the latest BIOS, then set them up manually - freq to 2133, base timings to 11-11-11-30, DRAM voltage to 1.65....if still no joy check the advance timings and see what the tRFC is set at

They were bought as a 16gb kit, and one of the xmp profiles sets it to what you suggested and it didnt take (told me to press f1 to enter bios and undo changes or f2 to set to default). Just tried as you suggested and gave me the same "overclock settings failed blah blah f1 or f2"

You have the latest BIOS? If so, try with 2 sticks in slots 1-3 if OK, try the other 2 sticks in the same slots - if all good at that point, may want to check each stick individually with memtest - also let me know what the tRFC is set at in the DRAM advanced or secondary timings

Have latest bios, tried sticks 1 and 3, then 2 and 4, neither work for the OC. by default timings are

tREFI 6240
im not sure what any of them mean, but when I tried to match your suggestion I changed tRAS to 30, and left the rest the same, changed clock to 2133 and voltage to 6.5

Looks pretty good could try the tRFC up to 220 or so, might also try taking up the VCCSA to 1.12 if nrither works have a a feeling its a bad mobo or maybe a bad stick, can check the sticks individually with Memtest, maybe 4-5 passes on each stick

Ok, tried the tRFC at 220, didnt work. I ran memtest overnight, got 6 passes done with 0 errors. I'm not sure where to set VCCSA.

model F3-17000CL11-4GBZL where did you get this model number? if it came off a stick or wherever you bought them that is not a 16gb kit its a single 4gb stick. I'm guessing you just went looking online and that is what you found?

Back to trying to help Will it boot single sticks @2133 with xmp enabled? How about 1866 will all 4 installed? VCCSA should be in the bios somewhere never used your specific board but most Z87s should have this setting somewhere.

Vccsa is listed as "CPU SA Voltage Offset". First, set the "CPU SA Voltage Offset Mode" to "+". Then set CPU SA Voltage Offset to 0.190. This will add 0.190 volts to the Vccsa setting.

I got the model number from the bios, using "board explorer" and hovered over the individual ram slot, but here is an actual pic of the serial on the stick that shows it is a 16gb,

tried to run an individual stick at 2133, and all 4 at 1866, still wouldnt let me.

now did you just set the speed to 1866 or 2133? or are you applying decent timings? if the default speed is 1333 9-9-9-24 timings then you can't just bump the speed to 1866 as it will likely need 10/10/10/27 timings @ 1866. I'm just checking I have no idea of your OC experience just looking for things that might have been easily overlooked.


Its highly unlikely (read not possible) to get 4 sticks from gskill that won't meet rated specs unless the package was handled terribly between their shipment and what showed up on your doorstep.

The jist of my OC experience is from this threat haha, I will try those timings with...1.6V?

Unless it looked like a steamroller ran over the ram package or you decided to use them to clean off the bristles on your wire grill brush I can't see having 4 of them go bad, if we could find a bad stick maybe 2 Iwould just say RMA the sticks, but this seems odd.

Yes to me it seems very odd too, When everything got shipped to me nothing looked roughed up or anything, and I have not done anything to make them not work as intended, and everything is fairly new, made this build just a couple months ago.

No telling what is going on but it stinks for you, I've been there at least you do have a stable system while you're trying to work on this I've had it go to the point where I needed to fix something and I couldn't get the computer to do anything but be a paperweight.

Tried the following settings in my previous attempt
upped that voltage thing by 0.19, timings of 11-11-11-30, 1.65v @ 2133Mhz, then tried the same with tRFC at 220, still a no go

Thinking mobo or CPU, any chance of borrowing other sticks to try, still possible there's a bad stick or two - could RMA the sticks
