Hello,

I've recently purchased a laptop HP 17-g185nb.
It had Win8, which i erased for a Win7
It has a BCM43142 wifi card, which was not detected so I started to search for a driver. It seems as there is no Win7 driver, only Win8 and Win10. I'm still not sure since Broadcom has zero documentation on their website, so I'm still looking around.

I will later try to download the Win8/10 driver anyways and try to install it, but meh.

Any chance i can still somehow run Win7 on this laptop and have Wifi ?

Thanks !

Edit :
I installed the driver I found (from a french website TousLesDrivers), it didn't say any error and says my devices are ready to use, but however I don't know how to actually get it working now. I mean, it won't look for wifi automatically, there is no wifi tray icon "as usual" to look for wifi, where should I look ?

Hello,

Thanks for the lenovo link, I've installed it succesfully (+ reboot), unfortunately it still doesn't show any wifi card (in Network & Sharing center -> Card adapter settings).

Would it be possible that this wifi card simply can not be compatible with Win7 ?

I also still have to install Windows updates (it loads infinitely, gotta fix that problem also), would Windows updates solve the issue once I did them ? Otherwise, do you have any other idea how to solve that ?

Thanks for your help

Am not sure if updates will solve the issue here; certainly not on W7.
As I asked before, are you certain that the wifi is actually turned on your problem could be one of two things:
1. The wifi is turned off and can be turned on using the correct Fn key + F key press OR
2. The wifi is actually broken.

The fact that there are W7 drivers suggests that the hardware should work just fine under W7.
