So I got a ssd to run my os that was currently on a hdd on IDE mode. I tried to change it to ahci before instalation but it wouldn't complete after hours of loading, so I did it on IDE and it was easy and quick. Now I'm trying those safeboot tutorials to change it to AHCI but all I get after reboot is a black screen. But when I enable something called AMD AHCI BIOS ROM on my AsRock Extreme 3 it boots normaly. My question is what is this thing doing? Am I getting the performance I expected from AHCI mode or is this BIOS ROM making it worse?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure if I get what you're saying. My hdd was (and still is) in IDE mode. I want the ssd to work on AHCI mode because of reasons and I kinda got it to work doing those safeboot tutorials, but only when I enable AMD AHCI BIOS ROM. Right now I'm using my ssd on AHCI, but with that thing enabled and I'm not sure if this right or it should not need this BIOS ROM thingy.
