[SOLVED] Can't get dual monitors to work correctly

Hello, this is my first post here. I'm not even sure this is possible to fix without upgrading the computer but I have a intel Core i5 and it only has one HDMI port but I have two monitors. I can't get the 2nd one to work with some 3rd party random adapter but its super laggy. I can't change the refresh rate above 60hz but its super laggy. My first display is connected to the Intel UHD Graphics 630 but the 2nd one (i think it may be the problem I'm not sure, I'm not so much up to date with computers anymore lol) its connected to the MS IDD Device...what can I do to make it not so laggy. I'm not sure if I gave enough information so I'm open to any questions :) Thanks in advance!

Solution
I'm running 3 monitors here, also with an older system and a mix on a GTX 1060 (and a GTX 660 Ti before) and integrated HD 4000 on a mix of DVI and HDMI and never had issues. Displaying that stuff is not an issue, but gaming performance on the iGPU is lackluster.

Depending on your games any card will be better but don't try with the GT710 or GT730, those were low-end even when they released 11 years ago. (yes 11 years. Despite them being released 8 years ago, quite some use chips that are from the GT 400 series and thus practically 11 years old)

If the games are less demanding something like a GT 1030, GTX 750 or RX 370/550 could be enough, (and if the games are older, recent drivers aren't a big point, as the old games won't...
I would suggest using Monitor 1 in HDMI (if you only have 1) and Monitor 2 in your VGA/preferably DVI-D slot if you have them?

Would be helpful to know what Monitors you have and Motherboard.

The monitor will only go to it's factory manufactured refresh rate, but can definitely be limited by poor adapters/cables.

so I have my two monitors from my old computer (r.i.pieces lol) so they are the ISP Sceptre monitors e248b-fpt168...I'm starting to think that my computer can't handle both monitors. The computer specs are:
Processor: Intel(R) Core i5-10400 CPU @ 2.90GHz, 2904 Mhz, 6 cores
BIOS Version: AMI F.31
Board is: HP 8767 A (SMVB)

I have an adapter for the monitors (I ordered a few different ones) and the adapters for the DVI doesn't work, the VGA doesn't work its just the HDMI to the USB ...I even have an adapter from HDMI to the USB C and it wont work...I'm frustrated lol

Unfortunately only directly connecting with HDMI to HDMI (DP) will transmit things like Audio and desired refresh rates. VGA can be limited depending on its age. Older VGA had limited Hz/Resolution. It is possible to run 1920 x 1080 but imho its not desirable, especially with the monitors you have as they look nice! they may not support VGA/DVI-D correctly even with 'adaptors/convertors' which themselves are usually limited at 60Hz. Looking at your Monitors they use HDMI and DP?

I may be able to look into whether some form of splitter may work for you for the 1 HDMI port you do have but I wouldn't get your hopes up. I would recommend finding the cheapest GPU possible with Minimum 2HDMI if it has no Display Port or 1 HDMI 1 DP minimum. That's presuming you have a DP on your monitors.

Not a fan of HP motherboards myself but you definitely have a PCIE x16 slot on the board to house a GPU from what I found on the Manufacturers website. Are you able to press F10? (I think) on pc start-up and connect to HP servers to search for a BIOS update?

The monitors themselves have two HDMI Ports and one DP. I was wondering about the splitter too but at this point I'm not going to get my hopes up for it lol. Do you have any recommendations for a GPU? At some point in the near future I'd like to build the computer up some more and upgrade it to better...well...everything lol. Also I appreciate all of your help :) I used to be really up to date with the computer stuff but things have changed a lot since I was building lol

Not much has changed in all honesty just newer chipsets and models of things! I'm a bit of a fossil too, doesn't help when the cost of things are so expensive, so keeping up to scratch with modern technology can be a bit of a dream than a reality for most. I'm still rocking DDR3 and a CPU from 2013 the main component that needs updating usually most often is the GPU as most people game and want to run at very high refresh rates.

I am curious why you have 2 165Hz panels with such a basic system? Usually these types of panels are for people to try and gain 'competitive advantage' in games and you don't seem like a gamer? Knowing whether you plan to game or not would help me find you a good GPU at the right price for your needs.

I remember the first computer me and my Dad built lol it was an oooooold school HP with like 640 kb of memory lol He had that thing for so long and had turned it into a beast before it finally died for good

I wouldn't say I'm a competitive gamer, but my niece has kind of roped me into playing a few games with her, nothing too heavy yet but shes heading that way. She has discovered the world of modded gaming. The monitors were a gift, I had a better system but the motherboard died out on me so I had to get my simple work computer to just due for now lol Eventually I'll get this PC back to only work and get a better system that will do these monitors justice 😉

System changing stuff was that amount of memory back then haha, mad how far we have advanced with technology in such a short time period, imagine what the future has in line for us! Elon Musk's Neuralink is something else.

In regards to your PC I would imagine you a running these games off your CPU Intel 630 at the moment? So anything would be a bonus/upgrade for you, that's without having to break the bank with the current GPU situation. What part of the world are you from? This usually would not be an issue, some countries will/may struggle more than others to source a GPU (at the right price), they are being scalped (bought by 1 person/organisation) and resold for absurd prices. Might be worth a look at the used marketplace also.

What games would you like to play with your niece?
