cant get fat 32 to go ntfs

Hi all i have a acer t135 sempy 3300 w/ xp home,Ive tried to convert mfg partition to ntfs its set as this
72.6 fat 32 on (c: ---and 73.4 ntfs on (d:
i had a copy of partition magic from a guy at work but when i tried it i wiped hd and had to use acer restore discs any help would make me happy

If I understand what you're saying, i.e., you have a FAT 32 partition in additon your other partition(s), I think it's the Windows restore files or at least some of them and can't be deleted, formatted, or changed without formatting the drive it's on. I think it is a critical part of the OS

its a 160 gig split in 2,buy acer,si it sounds like i actually need a full copy of xp(or oem) to re format the drive. ,Then add my own partitions? cause when i used the "restore discs" they are set to do the patritions the same way??

The restore disk will just set up the machine the way it was when it left the factory. You can either get a copy of XP, which would get rid of any crapware that Acer put on the machine buit I think you would still have a small FAT32 parttition for the XP restore files. Or you could get a program like Partition Magic and then create and resize partitions. If you have the money, the ideal solutions would be to get an OEM of XP and something like Partition Magic. If I had to get one or the other, I would get the Partition Magic because it's a very good program for managing partitons. You can always go into Add and Delete and delete any programs that Acer put on you don't want as well as run an antispywar program to get rid of some of this stuff but you do need to be careful using antispyware programs.

I always partiton the hard drive with the OS on it and keep all my data on the partion without the OS. That way I can do clean installs of the OS with out worrying about losing data

Glad to help. Would still suggest you take a look at out Partition Magic. One of those programs you seldom use but when you need it, you're reallly glad you have it. Been using it for years and never had a problem. There's a similar program called something like Partition Commander that's been around about as long as Partition Magic. Never used it so really can't say anything about it.

The FAT32 partition is likely a restore partition you can use instead of needing the restore CDs... most companies are doing this nowadays... even Dell.
