Cant get gtx 970 to work

Hey just got my new msi gtx 970 graphic card and its first time im foing this! First time i get the text: power down and plig in pcie to your graphic card. So i take out 6pin and put the short cable that i got with it (6pin on one side and 8pin on the other) onto my 6 pin cable that i got with pc!. But now my monitor wont even find the pc. Pls help! Sucks with computers!!

The 8-pin you're talking about. Is it a 6+2-pin or a straight 8-pin? You can't put an 8-pin in a 6-pin socket and "leave" 2 pins on the outside...

If I am looking at the correct model it looks like it will take both the 6+2 and 6 pin connections. If both connections are theres then yes they are required.

and i have 2x6 pin you need both to be connected

Same card as I have. Yes you need both 6-pins connected. You always need to "fill all the holes" on the card.

Ye I got the one with red stuff on! So I need to connect my 6+2 to the 8pin hole on the graphic card? Or do I need one more cable so I can connect both to the 8pin and 6 pin on my graphic card? Sry for so noob :/

You need to connect both the 6-pin and the 6+2 pin (total 14 pins). What Power Supply do you have?

Yes you need two/both cables, one for the 8 pin and one for the 6 pin connectors otherwise it won't work.

Damn.... I got a corsair CX600. But when I plugged it in I only found 1 cable (6+2) so I need to buy a new power supply as well........

You can always use a molex to pci-e cable if you have a spare molex coming out of the psu , do that for now until you upgrade the psu.

You really don't want a tier 4 psu (cx600) running a game machine anyway

But that psu does have 2 x 6+2-Pin pcie. one bundles into a 8 pin and one used only as a six. No need for those adaptors
