Okay so i bought this :http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/computer-accessories/headsets-and-microphones/steelseries-siberia-200-gaming-headset-10142289-pdt.html

Basically it came and i found out this item had been falsely advertised it as it did not come with USB which is what i wanted and had been displayed as having one on the website .

It cam as two cables split into the sound and the mic then i also came with a line in cable. if i use the two cables the headphone and then the mic i can only use the rubbish realtech audio so i am trying to get the line in to work to see if i can get that to work which i can't

How do i get this flipping headset to actually produce sound and let me talk to my friends online....this is now how i wanted to spend my Tuesday night

Ya, the spec's definitely say it has USB 2.0 connectivity as well as 3.5mmjack. Are you sure there is not a usb port on it somewhere? My guess is you already looked around for that.

Since you paid quite a lot for it, I would contact the seller and ask for an explanation about the usb not being there. Perhaps they shipped you the wrong product.

i went straight to the steel series website saw all that also before looking at the technical specs at the bottom of the product page.
okay Wayfall the line in single plug is one of those special extended 3.5mm jacks that carries 3 total lines: 2 audio signals for stereo and the microphone or video signal as the 3rd that is found and used only on special or newer audio/video component equipment. might be xbox has one or play station idk idc that stuff's rubbish i do know it is on the portable dvd players and the 3rd line is used to carry the video signal.
as for making that work on your pc i do not know that your pc has a jack for that special 3 line plug.

you can either buy a sound card for better sound quality or try and adapter like this:iLuv USB Audio Adapter (USB to 3.5mm Headset-Mic Adapter) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1VP3XF2698&cm_re=usb_audio_3.5mm_adapter-_-9SIA1VP3XF2698-_-Product
