When I click the Internet icon st the bottom right and click troubleshoot it says "install a driver for your network adapter".

I have a Ethernet cable going from my PC to my router so how come I can't get internet?

Solution

Are you at home? In that case I would use home. Using public means the computer will assume your on a public network and tighten up firewall settings which is more secure but it can also cause problems in say something like online gaming...
Because you don't have a driver for your Ethernet port on your computer. If your Ethernet port is on your motherboard, then please reply with the brand and model of your motherboard, if it's on an expansion card then find out the brand and model of said card.

Also, I will need to know which version of Windows you are running as well as what architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).

I'm using the MSI Z87 G45 gaming motherboard and Windows 7 Home 64 bit but I'm wanting to upgrade to Windows 10 once I have Internet to do that.

Click this link https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z87-G45-GAMING.html#down-driver&Win7 64 and make sure that you are on the download tab with Drivers being the button that's lit, then select Win 7 64 from the drop down list if it's not already and download the one called On-Board LAN Drivers (the top one of the two) and download that to a USB stick from a computer that has an internet connection then put said USB drive into the problem computer and run the downloaded file(s). Then safely remove the USB drive and restart, then post back with results.

Is it called Killer Network by any chance? Since I don't have any other computers I can use right now, it seems strange that I would need to venture out and download a driver on a different computer.

On the front of my motherboard box it mentions something called killer network and there's a disk inside the box. Could it be on this?

Ok I installed it and I now have internet. However I have 2 questions.

1. How do I make sure I'm up to date with my network driver and how do I go about installing the newest and deleting the old one?

2. Should I select home group, public or work? I usually use public I think

Install the driver from the msi page that people linked above, you can delete the old one in device manager under network adapters.
