My amd 2700+ right out of the box works at 13x166 but ofcourse it isnt alright till its overclocked. So I thought I would jack up the fsb and as close to 200 as I could get so I started to bring it up until I hit 178 then I thought if I lowered the multiplier I could still get some more out of it but it dosent want to boot up after I save and exit all it dose is shut off the monitor and keeps it off. Then I have to dig in and reset the bios to defaults. It dose however allow me to put the multiplier up but only to 13.5 wich is what a 2800+ would have. Itried all the multiplier and all the voltages everything but it still dosent want to work. What am I missing here?

P.S mobo is Asus A7N8X

i dont have answers to ur queries but i had thot the A7N8X unlocks all the multipliers....

If sometimes you feel little, useless, offended or depressed or get that loser feeling, always remember that you were once the fastest and most victorious sperm out of hundreds of millions...

The answer is that the multipliers are split into two categories: 5x-12.5x, and 13.0x and above. To access one set or another requires a physical modification to the CPU. Sorry.

Fortunately, your mod is reversible, as to go higher is non-reversible. All you need to do is the ole' wire trick. Look it up in a search engine. It involves connecting two pins on the back of your CPU.
