Can't get my scanner on my Canon MP240 to work

Hi

I'm unable to get my MP240 scanner to work? I've just connected it to my HP laptop, running Win8.1, and the printer works fine, but when I press the scan button the LED has a rotating symbol for about a minute, then does nothing, and I'm unable to select scan my using the drop down menu on the printer icon?

I've updated the drivers from this link, http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp240#DriversAndSoftware
recommended by several forums, but still the same problem. I'm using a USB connection. Tried all of them to no avail.

Any advice before I shoot it will be greatly appreciated.



 
Thanks but didn't work, just tried un-installing the printer and re-installing the drivers and now it does nothing at all. I've had it 7 years now, Wasted an entire day pretty much trying to fix it... We're getting divorced.... so going to bin it and buy a new one tomorrow.
