It usually works better if you manually configure the device that will be your access point. Are you connecting it to an LAN port of your router and using the AP power cable on it or using PoE?
To configure it manually, connect a computer to its Ethernet port, set the computer temporarily to an address in the default range of the AP and then type the AP default address into the attached computer browser. Insure that the settings are what you want -- particularly the IP address of the AP, which must be in the network range of the router but outside the router DHCP assignment range (or you can get conflicts).
