I have an old Digitalstorm PC, which has a EVGA X58 SLI micro motherboard (despite it being in a huge HAF 2 tower). It has a 1tb hdd as the boot drive, and it has been updated to Win 10. I tried adding a Crucial 2.5 inch M500 ssd to it recently, and I believe I connected it properly (power connector is fine, and the data connection cable is occupying the top connector slot). However, the drive doesn't show up at all in windows disk management. I tried changing a setting in the bios from IDE to AHCI, but then the PC won't boot, as the primary is an HDD (it basically can't see the HDD in this mode). The only other option is Raid, which I haven't tried.
This is an old PC, probably around 8-10 years. It has PCIE slots, but no USB 3 ports if that helps age it.
Any tips? I'm sorry I'm leaving out some details, but the last time I was really tech savvy was probably 10 years ago. I was giving myself headaches trying to figure out if a PCIE 16 USB 3 adapter card plus a USB 3 ssd was the only way to add ssd storage to this thing.

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information (Windows 10 noted) specifics needed: editions, versions, etc..

First: forget RAID.

Second: update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Third; try swapping in known working SATA power and data cables for the Crucial M500 SSD.

Fourth: open the Disk Management window. Expand so all can be seen. Take a screenshot and post that screenshot here via imgur (www.imgur.com).

Can you show screenshots from ? :
Disk Management,
Device Manager - disk drives and storage controllers sections expanded,
Windows Storage Spaces (Control Panel/Storage Spaces).
(upload to imgur.com and post link)

Updated with specs and images. Not sure of the best way to use the differing imgur links. Sorry about that.

Can you show a screenshot from Windows Storage Spaces?
(Control Panel/Storage Spaces)

If the drive appears there, then remove it from pool and delete storage pool.

In Disk Management - check if the drive appears below DVD drive.
Scroll bar seems to indicate, there could be more drives.

There's nothing listed in storage spaces. It says there are no compatible drives if I try to create a new pool. Also, despite the scroll bar, there's nothing listed after the DVD drive in disk management.

Ok. I've tried bios settings and nothing has helped. Turns out I had only the one pci-e cable, so I've order some more. Will update if that leads to success, or delete if not.

Can't see an easy way to delete this thread, but I've tried new cables, bios settings, etc. Nothing has worked. Giving up. Thanks for all the advice, but it just won't happen.
