I'm writing this from my pc running fine just not fully utilizing the ram. it won't run at 3,000mhz. Every time I try to change the settings the boot fails and prompts me to use last known good settings or enter bios.

Specs:

i5 6600k
MSI Z170A-G43 PLUS (MS-7970)
Corsair Vengeance DDR4 16gb (2 8gb sticks)
GTX 1050ti

Every time I go into bios and change the clock speed I get the issue. Also if I activate XMP and restart, boot fails. If I do both together, boot fails.

I've changed the voltage up to the recommended 1.35v and changed the timings, still no joy.
I've tried to change the ram from slots 1/3 to 2/4, still no joy.
I'm not sure what else to try. Any ideas please?

My bios version is 1 behind the latest, if that's useful to know.

Solution
Timing is crucial. I'd download Adia64 then check spd section under motherboard. And see what it says on the timing @ different Mhz and check back at the bios. I have a x570 Mobo and when I OC Tuner it sets the xmp profile and it trys and set the timings as if it was not overclocked like 15-15-15-35 when it should be 16-19-19-39 @ that xmp profile
